Licensure by endorsement: Hawaii has no reciprocity agreement with any state. An out-of-state licensee applies for Hawaii licensure and must show they meet Hawaii's requirements. Assuming another state's supervised-hours count transfers. Definitions of qualifying supervision differ meaningfully between boards. Hours that satisfied your original licensure may be counted differently here.
Renewing Your Hawaii Psychology License
Renewal Cycle
Verify your renewal cycle and expiration date with Hawaii Board of Psychology. Renewal cycles vary between annual and biennial, and some states renew the whole profession on a fixed date rather than on each licensee's anniversary.
CE Requirement
Hawaii requires continuing education on the renewal cycle, and most states mandate specific content areas. One general caution: endorsement is not a transfer. The board still evaluates whether your education, supervised experience, examination, and professional history are equivalent to its own standards, and it can conclude that they are not. Older training histories and non-standard program structures draw the most scrutiny.
PSYPACT® and Hawaii
A PSYPACT® bill has been introduced in Hawaii. It has not been enacted. Bills are introduced far more often than they pass, and passage is itself a step short of an effective date.
Today an APIT® does not reach clients located in Hawaii, and a Hawaii license cannot serve as your compact home state.
There is a second consequence that catches people. Because the ASPPB E.Passport requires an active doctoral-level license in at least one participating jurisdiction, a psychologist whose only license is in Hawaii cannot use the compact anywhere — not at reduced benefit, but not at all. The fix is a license in a participating state.
